The trim determines which powertrain is available for the BMW X5. The xDrive40i has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine with 335 horsepower, and 330 lb.ft. of torque. The xDrive40i has an 8-speed Steptronic manual and sport shift modes. The xDrive50i SUV is powered by a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V-8 motor. The peak output is 456 horsepower and 479 pounds-feet of torque. The same 8-speed automatic transmission is used. Both trims have xDrive all-wheel drives.
